Many in #Malaysia love the thrill of badminton for its speed and skill, but this intense sport comes with significant risks—especially sudden cardiac arrest (#SCA). In August, 60-year-old Mr. Tan in #Penang suffered a SCA while playing. Thanks to the quick action of his teammates and #AED support from local volunteer Augustine Wong, he regained his heartbeat in just three minutes.

This incredible rescue highlights the success of Penang’s Heart Safe Program, the country’s first collaborative initiative involving the state government, NGOs, medical professionals, and industry partners to create a heart-safe community. Since its launch in 2015, the program has made a real difference, resulting in over 300 AED installations and numerous CPR and AED training sessions across the city. As a result, the out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survival rate has increased from less than 1% to around 3%.
